Gumstix RPi Zero Battery board – rechargeable and wireless!

February 11, 2020 | Karen Schultz

We made the custom Gumstix Raspberry Pi Zero Battery IMU board so you can take your RPi Zero anywhere. The new Gumstix Battery IMU board is designed in Geppetto and can be modified to support a variety of COM or processors including the Pi Zero W for wireless video streaming.

  • Simply pop in two rechargeable NiMH or NiCd batteries into the holder and you’re ready to go with your Raspberry Pi Zero.
  • Charging the batteries is as easy as plugging in your Raspberry Pi Zero using a USB cable, as usual.
  • With the on-board Bosch BMI160 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope you can easily track motion.
  • Add a camera to enable totally wireless video streaming.

Here are the Github instructions and video showing the Gumstix Raspberry Pi Zero Battery board. The RPi Zero is streaming video over WiFi (using battery power), and overlaying real-time inertial data from the onboard BMI160.
